Prof. Meawad Mohammed ElKholy

Professor Meawad El Kholy is the Founding President of New Mansoura University (September 2020), former President of Menoufia University (2014-2018), Head of the Basic Sciences Sector Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities, and Professor of Experimental Solid-state Physics at the Faculty of Science, Menoufia University. He held many administrative positions at Menoufia University: Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science for Education and Student Affairs, Head of the Physics Department, Faculty of Science.

This is not new to Dr. El Kholy. Since his beginnings, he has enjoyed leadership skills and responsibility, as he held the position of President of the Student Union at the Faculty of Science, Menoufia University, throughout his studies at the university. He participated in many student and community activities.

  • El Kholy obtained a bachelor’s degree (1981) with excellent grades, a master’s degree (1987), and a doctorate (1992) in physics from the Faculty of Science, Menoufia University.
  • El Kholy held several academic positions: demonstrator, assistant lecturer, lecturer, assistant professor until he obtained the professorship in March 2003.​
  • Professor El Kholy attended a number of courses and workshops in Egypt and abroad. He participated in reviewing many research papers in his specialty in the committees for promoting professors and assistant professors at the Supreme Council of Universities. He also participated in reviewing research projects and scientific consultations. He also participated in reviewing promotion papers for a number of faculty members in Arab universities, including but not limited to Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, and other Arab countries.
  • Professor El Kholy is a certified expert in quality and accreditation, a member of the review team for faculties of science and university programs outside and inside Egypt, and an external reviewer for the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Education (NAQAAE).​
  • El Kholy participated in 35 conferences on the development of higher education, 30 conferences in his field of specialization in applied and basic sciences, in addition to many other related conferences, 25 conferences on many non-specialized topics, and 12 forums and conferences for the Association of Arab Universities and the Universities of the Islamic World. He attended 16 various seminars and meetings and is an international peer reviewer for journals and publishing houses.​
  • Professor El Kholy undertook many scientific missions and working visits to many foreign countries, including the United States of America, England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Malaysia, and most Arab countries.​
  • El Kholy was honored in many forums inside and outside Egypt and received certificates of appreciation from Menoufia University, New Mansoura University, and other Egyptian universities for his prominent role in various fields of work throughout his distinguished career.
  • El Kholy received many local and international awards, including the University Appreciation Award in 2020, the Best Public University President Award conducted by the Blackboard website in 2018, and the Educational Leadership Award in Africa in 2015 and 2017. He was honored by the State of Mauritius for obtaining this award. He also received the Academic Excellence Award in 2010, Distinguished Scientific Publishing Award, Best Scientific Research Award, and Excellence Award in 2010 at Menoufia University.
  • He has more than 77 scientific papers published in international journals with a high impact factor, more than 881 research citations, and an H15 index on Google Scholar scale and Scopus scale.
  • El Kholy supervised and reviewed many master’s and doctoral theses in Egypt and the Arab countries. He participated in judging fellowships at the Military Academy for Postgraduate Studies. He also reviewed books and scientific research for local and international publishing houses and journals. He held the presidency and membership in the judging of excellence awards in the country and some Egyptian universities.
  • El Kholy is a member of many scientific societies inside and outside Egypt, including the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Glass Technology Society (United Kingdom), the Egyptian Society for Solid State Science and its Applications, the Egyptian Society for Materials Research, and the Egyptian Society for Crystallography and its Applications. His record is full of distinguished activities in the fields of scientific research, student activities, environmental service, and community development.
  • During El Kholy's presidency, Menoufia University witnessed an unprecedented renaissance in the fields of construction and the development of new scientific programs and specializations that were unique in their time. In the field of construction, he was credited with establishing eight new faculties at the university: the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Technology, the Faculty of Physical Education for Boys, the Faculty of Physical Education for Girls, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Early Childhood, the Faculty of Media, and the Faculty of Dentistry.
  • In the field of new educational programs, he is credited with developing new specializations and programs to meet the needs of the labor market in the fields of renewable energy, communications and network engineering, integrative medicine and surgery, computer science and robotics, management, and specialized nursing.
  • His areas of research and scientific interests include optical, electrical, magnetic, mechanical, thermal and dielectric properties of new solids, superconductivity, thermoluminescence, as well as nanoscience and technology. He also has two patents.
  • On the other hand, El Kholy participated in developing plans, general policies, and academic regulations for the four private universities (King Salman International University, Al-Jalala University, Al-Alamein International University, and New Mansoura University). He was an active member of the committee supervising the completion of the material and human components and the start of study in these universities. He also participated in developing the strategy of the Delta Region Alliance.
  • Thus, Dr. El Kholy began a new bidding journey with the establishment of New Mansoura University starting in 2020, since it was an idea until it became a great entity competing with the ancient universities in the level and quality of distinguished education provided by New Mansoura University. Study at the university opened in 2021 with eight faculties. His efforts culminated in the opening of these faculties by His Excellency the President of the Republic, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on December 1, 2022. Currently, the number of faculties that have been opened at the university has become 10, and work is underway to add new faculties to the university next year. Within the framework of establishing New Mansoura University, a national university among smart universities, professor El Kholy began another success story of a different and distinguished educational system, international partnerships and dual certificates with some foreign universities, and working with the highest quality in one of the fourth-generation universities. The giving continues, offering the most wonderful examples in serving the nation. He is like a good plant whose benefits are reaped wherever planted.
